General Assembly and Oathtaking of 2013-2014 PLAI-NCR Officers



The Philippine Librarians Association-National Capital Region (PLAI-NCR) Librarians Council will hold its General Assembly and Oath taking of the 2013-2014 PLAI-NCR Board on the 20th of November  2012, Tuesday, 1:00-5:00 p.m. at the Epifanio de los Santos Auditorium, 6/F The National Library of the Philippines, T. M. Kalaw St., Ermita, Manila with the following Agenda:

  1. Call to order
  2. Determination of Presence of Quorum
  3. Approval of the minutes of Last Year’s Annual General Meeting
  4. Annual Report of the President
  5. Treasurer’s Report
  6. Other Matters as may be properly brought before the Meeting
  7. Adjournment
 To encourage further participation and attendance by members, a Lecture-Forum on “Healthy Lifestyles for Librarians” will be held before the General Assembly and Oath taking.  

Registration fee is free to all paid members, non-members Php 200.00, students Php 100.00. This shall cover the registration fee, certificate of attendance and snack.  Registration starts at 12:30 p.m.

PLAI-NCR Conference on the Future of Library Technical Services



The Philippine Librarians’ Association, Inc.-National Capital Region (PLAI-NCR) Librarian’s Council invites Librarians and information professionals to  a 2-day Conference on 16-17 October 2012 to be held  at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel, Sta. Cruz, Manila. 

The theme of the Conference is “The Future of Library Technical Services” and it has the following objectives:
1. Discuss the current landscape and the changes taking place in library, technical services re-defined, and the innovative ways for libraries to transform in the global information environment.
2. Provide a venue to reflect on the traditional interpretations and new understandings of library technical services and how doing selection and acquisitions, cataloging, indexing and abstracting are being transformed in the new information world.
3. Identify the competency gaps and requirements for present and future librarians and information professionals to enable them to respond to the vast changes in library technical services.

Invited Speakers and Resource persons are known experts and authorities in Library technical services. Topics include : 

  1. Evolution of Collection Development and Management
  2. Transforming Collections : trying to find balance for print and electronic resources
  3. New Trends and Future Outlook of Cataloging
  4. Transforming Technical Services : The Growing Need for IT Skills
  5. Collaboration of Technical Services with IT Services
  6. Finding your way from AACR to Resource Description and Access (RDA)

  8. Evaluation of Technical Services Performance

PLAI Forum at the 33rd MIBF


The Philippine Librarians’ Association, Inc. (PLAI) and the (PLAI-NCR) Librarians’ Council invite librarians, information professionals, library support staff, teachers and students of library and information studies to attend and participate in a Forum on the topic “Publishers, Booksellers and Librarians: A Renewed Partnership in the Promotion of Reading and Life-long Learning”

This Forum has the following objectives:

1. To discuss the importance of maintaining collaboration and partnership among publis
hers, booksellers and librarians in developing readers;

2. Provide a venue to discuss strategies of identifying models of promoting and encouraging a culture of reading and reiterating its vital role in fostering life-long learning.

This forum will be held on September 12, 2012 at the SMX Convention Center, Seashell Lane, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City in Meeting Rooms 4,5,6 from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m. This shall coincide with the Philippines’ premier book event, the 33nd Manila International Book Fair (MIBF). Fees to be assessed are as follow: PLAI members PHP200.00, non-PLAI member PHP 250.00, undergraduate students PHP 100.00. These shall cover the Registration fee, certificate of participation and snacks. Registration starts at 7:30 a.m.

16th Philippine Academic Book Fair


The Academic Booksellers Association of the Philippines (ABAP) will hold the 16th Philippine Academic Book Fair on July 10-14, 2012 at the Megatrade Hall 1, SM Mega Mall, Mandaluyong City. The book fair will feature the latest academic books, journals, references, and other materials for educational institutions.
